Kannenmalerin Kathrin Finck mit einem ihrer Werke

About me

I am Kathrin Finck, a native of Vogtland (region in Central Germany, close to the border of Czech Republic) and a passionate can painter from the little village Bernitt, near the city of Rostock in the federal state Mecklenburg Western Pomerania (Northern Germany). I discovered my love of art in my early childhood. My heart beats especially for old milk cans, which I transform into unique works of art. Each can is unique – I don’t paint any of my motifs twice.

I draw my inspiration from the southern German tradition, but I have developed my own style that goes beyond traditional peasant painting. I strive for artistic freedom and do not use stencils. Instead, I give free rein to my creativity.

The metal milk cans I paint are real rarities and are no longer made. They are hard to find, but sometimes I discover them on old farms or in attics. I particularly like to paint on cans that depict typical Mecklenburg landscapes with old farmhouses and farm gardens – a region that I love very much.

Each of my cans is created with a lot of patience and care. I apply up to five coats of paint and varnish to make them weatherproof. I mainly work on individual commissions for my customers. Many of my works have found their way abroad, including Scandinavia and Greece.

My cans are more than just works of art; they are an expression of my love of painting and the Mecklenburg landscape. Each piece tells its own story and carries a piece of my artistic soul.
